BILLINGTON, THOMAS JOHN

Tom Billington passed away at home under his daughter's care early Sunday morning, Aug. 26.  Tom was born August 14, 1947,   was a Traverse City native and lifetime resident. Tom served his country proudly as a medical specialist in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War before returning home to rejoin his group of lifelong friends and loved ones.

An avid sportsman, Tom loved boating and the outdoors, and was an excellent angler and marksman.  He golfed often, and also enjoyed visiting Drummond Island, Florida, and Isla Mujeres, Mexico with his friends, Dick Hedderich, John Popa, and Jim Vanderburg, as well as those that preceded him in death - Ross Wamsley, Dave Ransom, and Bob Karczewski Sr.

Tom was a devoted and loving father to his daughter, Riley, who adored him and was grateful she could return home to care for him during his final weeks.

Tom's parents were Clayton and Lucille (Thomas) Billington of Traverse City.  He is survived by his sister, Judith Franklin, of Waukegan, Illinois; and by his daughter, Riley Billington, of Miami Beach, Florida, and Traverse City.

Tom was cremated per his request, and in lieu of a funeral there was a gathering at his home to celebrate his life, followed by a bonfire.
A reception was held on Sept. 23, 2018 at Tom's residence, 5331 Brown Bridge Road, Traverse City, MI.  Arrangements were entrusted to Covell Funeral Home Traverse City.
