Robert (Bob) John Purvis, of Suttons Bay, Michigan, died January 2, 2024, at the Highlands of Northport.

Bob evaporated from the Earth, leaving a colorful collection of relatives, friends, neighbors and admirers, the widow Rogers, and the memory of “Kitty� his long-haired white cat.

As a visionary metalsmith artist and sculptor, Bob led an intentional and determined life of joy. His legendary artistic skills found appreciative nests, and collections in private homes, public institutions, and schools.

Bob was a resourceful and frequent artistin- residence at Suttons Bay public school. He led his unsuspecting art students into the curious world of great opportunities, brilliantly disguised as impossible situations. His natural ease provided the atmosphere for students and fellow artists to discover peculiar resolutions to prevail. Bob was not conventional.

Born on July 11, 1947, to Frank and Doris Purvis of Traverse City, Michigan, Bob graduated from Traverse City Central High School, then gained his Associates Arts degree from Northwestern Michigan College under the guidance of Paul Welsh. Bob is dearly missed for his humor, his artistic talent, and his mastery of alternative thinking.

Bob’s life will be celebrated at a memorial gathering Sunday, July 14th, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Suttons Bay Bahle Warming House and Park on West Street. All are invited to attend.
