SOMERS, WILLIAM

William Somers was born April 26th, 1947 in Lexington, Kentucky.  He was a young boy when his family moved to Traverse City, Michigan where he grew up skiing, swimming, playing golf, playing Euchre and boating.  He graduated from Traverse City High School in 1965.  He left college to join the military, serving 4 years in the US Navy.  Throughout his life he was a strong supporter of the US Armed Forces and our veterans.

Bill was always very proud of the town he grew up in and stayed in contact with many of his high school friends throughout the years.  Although he loved Michigan, he was drawn to the west with its mountains and open spaces.  He and his wife, Dena, lived in Idaho for a few years before finally settling down in Thornton, Colorado, a Denver suburb, where they raised their daughter, Jamie.

Bill believed there were so many wonderful things to see and experience in the US and he and his family traveled extensively over the years.  After his retirement in 2009, Bill and Dena spent every summer on the road in their RV, traveling from coast to coast and state to state visiting as many parks and scenic locations as possible.  Bill loved nothing more than a warm summer day boating on a high mountain lake or sitting in some beautiful location and playing a rousing game of Euchre with friends and family.

Bill passed away on April 30, 2019 at the age of 72. He is survived by his wife, Dena Somers; daughter, Jamie Somers; and sister, Camille Griner.  Bill will be missed by so many but no one more than Jamie who eulogized her Dad on Facebook:  â€œAlways and forever.  I love you more than anything, Daddy!  I will never forget the courage and knowledge you have shown me.  I will make you proud, Daddy!  I miss you.â€
