On June 12, 2023 Nancy Reed graduated to Heaven at the age of 76.  Born to Jean and air pilot Alfred Jahraus in Chicago on April 7, 1947, her family would spend summers in Traverse City, Michigan.  Nancy attended high school there, where she met Stewart.  He was accepted into the school of his dreams, the prestigious transportation design program at Art Center College of Design.  They married during college, she studied teaching and bore the first of 3 children they would raise.  Stewart’s automotive design career led them to Detroit soon thereafter, and they’d spend their next 5 1/2 decades together in California and Michigan with Stewart in automotive design.  Nancy and Stewart have lived in Pasadena for the past 18 years where he returned to his alma mater to serve as Chair of Transportation Design.
Always encouraging and imagining the best for her car designing husband, she enjoyed horseback riding, pet rescue, especially greyhounds, and volunteered at the Pasadena Humane Society. Â From church, car concours and horse stables, her beautiful smile and gentle demeanor will be missed by many. Â She was known to be very proper and elegant, as was her English mother. Â Youthful days of dreaming were never forgotten through her roles as faithful and supportive wife and homemaker, loving mother, doting grandma, equestrienne and pet rescuer.
She is survived by her husband Stewart, two daughters, Amy and Christine and their families, and her younger sister Michelle. Â Nancy is preceded to Heaven by her son Matthew who passed away on the same day of the year, June 12, back in 2015, and their parents.
A Celebration of Life reception was held at one of Nancy’s favorite places, Rose Bowl Riders stable: 4750 Oak Grove Dr, Pasadena, CA 91103, next to JPL, at the bottom of Foothill Blvd and through Hahamongna Park, June 22, 2023, 4 to 6:00pm.  A more traditional memorial with family members was planned for Michigan later in the summer of 2023.
