Wanda Kay (Murphy) Barker of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Levelland, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 at Covenant Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas. Born May 7, 1946, in Traverse City, Mich., she was the daughter of Robert and Lorraine (Moore) Murphy. On Feb. 21, 1975, in Kermit, Texas, she married Jimmy Barker.
Wanda was a graduate of Traverse City High School and Northwestern Michigan College Nursing School. She worked for Home Health Care and the cafeteria of Cactus Middle School, both in Levelland, TX. Wanda loved to work in her yard, read and play bingo.
Survivors include her husband, Jimmy of Lubbock, a son, Kevin Gene Morden of Fairbanks, Alaska, a daughter, Cynthia Lynn Morden of Traverse City, Mich., her mother, Lorraine Murphy of Traverse City, Mich., a brother, Leon Murphy of Maple City, Mich., a sister, Marilyn Clark of Eaton Rapids, Mich., and five grandchildren. Wanda was preceded in death by her father and two brothers.
Services were held on Wednesday, April 5th at Abbey Chapel - Resthaven Funeral Home; the Rev. Paul Cunningham of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial was in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home. The family wished that memorials be made to the American Lung Association.
