WEIGAND, CAROLE ANN

Retired Merrill High School teacher Carole Ann Weigand, 56, passed away Monday, Oct. 6, 2003, at Covenant - Harrison.
     She was born in Traverse City Jan. 3, 1947, the daughter of the late Neil and Esther (Warner) Weigand. She graduated from Traverse City Central High School in 1965. Carole received an associate of arts from Northwestern Michigan College, and bachelor of arts and master of arts degrees from Central Michigan University.
     Carole taught English and Spanish at Merrill High School for 31 years, retiring in 2001. She was an active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Christian Service Commission, Parish Council, a Eucharistic minister, sacristan and a team leader for funeral luncheons. She volunteered her time at the Eastside Soup Kitchen and Partnership Center. She enjoyed participating in the Thomas Township Library book discussion group and the Holy Spirit Bible Study class.
     She is survived by a sister, Sharon (Gary) Burkholder of Fife Lake; a niece, Sharry (Greg) Heberling and their sons, Brent and Stephen, of Big Rapids; a nephew, Eric (Jennifer) Burkholder of Oakley, Calif.; an uncle, William Weigand of Suttons Bay; and longtime friend and caregiver, Nancy Galbraith of Thomas Township.
     The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to The Partnership Center, Eastside Soup Kitchen or to the Holy Spirit Catholic Church Building Fund.
