Notes from the June 8th Committee Meeting:
Present: Ted, Myrna, Elaine, Jack, Sally, David, Roger, Paul, Don, Nancy, Jerry, with Pam (Guger) joining us for the tour at the Hagerty Center and unfortunately a previously scheduled meeting prevented her from joining us at a Barbeque. We graciously and eagerly welcome: Sheralyn Beattie, Gayle (Grueber) Popa, Betsy (Edgecomb) MacGirr and Pam (Guger) to the group! We still need more classmates, as it is too much fun not to participate, and as they say, the journey is possibly more fun than the destination.
A tour of the Hagerty Center, with the above classmates, excepting, Paul and Roger, as they were intransit and phoned from Dingmans Bar and Grill interviewing and contracting the services of Celebrity DJ, Michael O’Shay, for our Saturday Night Extravaganza, or so they say. Generally speaking this observer thought everyone enjoyed not only the tour, but also the site that was chosen long ago by Paul and Dale. Our thanks to both of them for their foresight and good taste!
In Pamela’s absence (sickness) she forwarded along with Betsy a financial recap, which shows us well into the black and which account for 98 classmates and spouses, or their significant others, paying to date. Pamela is now engaged in a comparison of who had previously acknowledged that they would be attending / those of whom have already sent in their commitment(s). This comparison will provide a more accurate insight into a projected attendance. Paul will in the very near future release another mass email stressing the importance to our classmates that their speedy acknowledgement of their attendance would be greatly appreciated, and assist us, hugely, in our planning. It was also recommended that everyone be advised, if they have a digital camera, to bring it, and we will somehow set up ‘an area’ to have these very same pictures downloaded onto the CD’s that have been already promised to the attendees. Not sure how it is going to happen, but Roger, Paul and Jack will figure out technology.
Ruth Ann, as usual, facilitated our planned agenda and the many discussions held within and as we have been accustomed, performed exceptional, and moved our conversations toward a consensus, quickly and efficiently. We all thank her.
Sally (Hall) Troyer and Gayle (Grueber) Popa are the Friday Night Coordinator Team (Holiday Inn Tent Party) and will finalize all arrangements relative to the same. We are in capable hands and guaranteed a most delightful evening on the shores of West Bay and we all thank you both!! At this same time several discussions were had that a ‘clip on the collar name tag’ [in large print and possibly color-coded as to grammar school attendance] be made for all the attendees and that Nancy (K) experienced in these matters would assist in the purchase and design of the same. Sally will chose a Classmate Sign-in-Book, and along with those same thoughts, the idea of using a large poster board for classmates to sign, of which may be incorporated along with our ‘class photo’ that will be taken at the Saturday night extravaganza, and on the spiraling staircase, located in the main entry. It was determined, by Nancy Fineout Peterson [Grade School Coordinator] to have a Friday Night grammar school sign-up, and a get-to-together at the TENT, before our scheduled 5:00PM start time. While Nancy P was not present we all applauded her for her outstanding efforts and the others [grade school representatives] that have offered to assist in making available a venue for these very special memories and friendships made long before our High School years. There will be more news and information to follow as it develops, as this area of the Reunion continues to build at warp speed.
And behold our wishes and hopes came true, and Nancy IS, our Saturday Night Coordinator! Nancy has already initiated a conversation with Jeremy (the Director of the Hagerty Center) and will enter into several discussions in the next several days so as to arrangements for food, beverages, etc. We did determine a few critical time schedules and they are as follows: Class Photo =7:00PM, Passed Classmate Memorial=9:00PM, and if desired a tour of the State of Michigan (Maritime Academy Vessel)=4:00PM. Also, Ruth Ann, will speak with Susie (Kildee) Janis [a 1965 Saint Francis Graduate] whom was the first woman DJ, during our era, for a local radio, to be our quest DJ for a few memorable songs, along with our already scheduled and contracted, Michael O’Shay (our very own, Wolfman Jack). Sherry suggested and it was agreed, that our closing song for our Reunion event should be, “Till we Meet Again.”
Myrna [Silent Auction Coordinator] gave an update as to the activities and donations to date. It was mentioned and discussed if the Auction should be ‘progressive in nature’ as it was thought that by doing so, it may add excitement, and diffuse a perhaps time consuming wrap-up. Time will tell.
Advertising sales was discussed, actively, and it was determined that: Nancy, Jack, Elaine, Sally and Betsy will make contacts and contact Don, for any needed assistance. The following ‘rate card’ was discussed and accepted.
Lastly, a discussion was held on ways to pass along the oral history of our classmates’ memories. Many stories were told, some of which can’t be exampled without censorship, and others, and you just had to be there! Roger, has many thoughts how we just might accomplish and capture this noteworthy and very intriguing addition to our already exciting website. Meeting adjourned.
As always, please forward your ideas, thoughts, suggestions and comments, as your input is important. Thanks to all committee members!
